Cavaliers go for clincher in Game 4

Cavaliers go for clincher in Game 4
AUBURN HILLS -- Detroit Pistons coach Michael Curry doesn't want his players looking past the next game, be it the last or not.

He had the players watch film of the first six minutes of the fourth quarter in Game 3, and then let them have the rest of Saturday off.

"Guys are down, but that's anywhere when you are down like this in a series," he said. "It's tough. The biggest thing is getting them to focus on just one game.

"What you tend to do when you are down in a series is go back over the whole season, and so you start looking at things that you have no control over.

"That's the past, and it can become a problem. So you just concentrate on the things we are talking about, and get ready for the game."

The Pistons trail the Cleveland Cavaliers 3-0 in the first round best-of-seven playoff series.

Today's Game 4 is 3:30 p.m. at The Palace of Auburn Hills. NBA teams with 3-0 leads in playoff history are 85-0 in eventually winning the series.

The Pistons were tied with the Cavaliers at 53 when the fourth quarter started in Game 3. Curry didn't say LeBron James caused all the problems for the Pistons.

"The first six minutes of the fourth quarter (in Game 3) they scored 13 points on just coverage mistakes," Curry said. "Then we made a couple mistakes offensively, and missed a few open shots. And that was pretty much the game.

"They are a good team, and they do things that are tough, but some of our wounds are self-inflicted. We can't make as many mistakes as we were making and still win the ballgame."

Curry said the Pistons would have had just a film session even if they won Game 3 because of the quick turnaround for an afternoon game today.

Free-throw disparity

Here's alarming series statistics to ponder. Cleveland has shot 100 free throws, and the Pistons 40 in three games. LeBron James has attempted 43 free throws. Rodney Stuckey leads the Pistons in attempts with just 14.

"The games go to the aggressive team," Curry said.

Prince struggles

Tayshaun Prince watched film and had a treatment on his sore torso Saturday, and Curry expects him to try and play in Game 4.

"Tay is struggling," Curry said. "His back, you know, he got it good and loose, and once he started the game (Game 3), he was pretty good. Then it went downhill from that. He just got treatment today, so we will see how he is tomorrow. I'm sure he will give it a try."

Chemistry vs. reality

Curry doesn't want to talk about team chemistry and other things. He prefers to deal with the reality at hand.

"We're just playing probably the best team in the league right now," he said. "It's a tough team to play at any time in the playoffs, and we put ourselves in a position to have to play them first, so we just got to find a way to play better Basketball. We got to limit our mistakes, and we got to knock down more shots."
