Normally, the Pistons would not worry about a home game against the lowly Sacramento Kings.
Their matchup on Friday night is an exception. Even with a five-game winning streak, the Pistons are in survival mode. They could be without three of their top six players. If Rasheed Wallace (foot) and Antonio McDyess (ribs) miss Friday's game, the Pistons will rely on Amir Johnson, Kwame Brown and Jason Maxiell at the power positions, though Tayshaun Prince and Walter Herrmann are also capable of playing power forward.
Johnson had eight points and five rebounds in his third consecutive start against the Nets. Brown, who had previously been out of the rotation, contributed seven points and six rebounds while Maxiell had nine rebounds.
In the backcourt, Richard Hamilton's absence because of a strained groin has led to increased playing time for swingman Arron Afflalo.
"It's hard, being that you just get used to them being out there," guard Allen Iverson said. "The flip side is the other guys came in there and got the job done in their own way. Nobody is going to come out there and be a Sheed or a Rip or a McDyess, but we have guys who come in off the bench and help in their own way."
The Pistons recorded a 100-92 road win over Sacramento in November, but the Kings were without their leading scorer, guard Kevin Martin, who recently returned to action.
PISTONS 83, NETS 75: Aided by the second-quarter ejection of Nets guard Vince Carter, the Pistons held the Nets to 37 percent shooting and won their fifth straight game on Wednesday afternoon. New Jersey was limited to 29 first-half points. Allen Iverson had 19 points and four assists for Detroit while Tayshaun Prince added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
