Phoenix Suns power forward Amare Stoudemire is available for the right price, and the Pistons are one of many teams interested in acquiring him. The Pistons will get a closer look at Stoudemire Sunday when Phoenix plays at The Palace.
Stoudemire is one of the league's premier offensive players, and the Pistons' frontcourt, led by Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess, will have to overcome fatigue to guard him. Detroit is playing a back-to-back after winning in overtime at Milwaukee Saturday night. If the Pistons get into the serious bidding, they'll likely have to give up one of their two starters with large expiring contracts -- Wallace or Allen Iverson.
Wallace would like to stay put but has no control over the situation.
"I don't care; I know it's all a part of the business," he said. "If I get traded, I get traded. If I don't, I don't."
It's unlikely that Wallace or any of the other Pistons' regulars will be changing uniforms before the trade deadline.
The Pistons can clear more than $22 million in salary-cap space this summer with those expiring contracts. President of basketball operations Joe Dumars would only give that up if the right deal came along, though Stoudemire is the type of player who could be a long-term answer for his aging frontcourt.
"We still got those three pieces from the championship team and we've got some hungry young fellows and two hungry vets in (Antonio McDyess) and AI (Allen Iverson)," Wallace said. "It's just a matter of us pulling this ship together and making the playoffs. Then we will take it from there. Once we get into the playoffs, then we can focus on making that hard run from there."
PISTONS 126, BUCKS 121 (OT): Richard Hamilton's season-high 38 points led the Pistons to their second straight victory Saturday night. Hamilton missed an 18-foot jumper in the closing seconds of regulation but combined with Allen Iverson to score 15 of Detroit's 17 overtime points. The injury-depleted Bucks got a career night from point guard Ramon Sessions, who repeatedly drove into the lane off picks-and-rolls and scored 44 points.
