Detroit Pistons Notes, Quotes 2008-11-15

--Kwame Brown's second start as a Piston was much smoother than the first one.

After playing just nine minutes and struggling on defense against the smallish Golden State frontcourt, Brown had his first double-double in a Detroit uniform with 10 points and 10 rebounds on Friday. He added three assists and helped to curtail the Lakers' inside scoring. It was sweet vindication for Brown, who was often booed by the Staples Center fans in his return to Los Angeles.

"I would have waited until Friday to start Kwame because I know Golden State plays small but I didn't want to throw him out there against the Lakers for his first start," coach Michael Curry said. "When we play these bigger teams that play traditional basketball, Kwame's going to be much better."

The 6-foot-11 Brown gives the Pistons more size and muscle to combat their upcoming opponents, all of whom have true center-power forward combinations. The Suns have the dynamic duo of Shaquille O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire. Cleveland, Detroit's opponent Wednesday, has Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Ben Wallace while Boston, the Pistons' Thursday night foe, has Kendrick Perkins and Kevin Garnett.

--Allen Iverson is having a dramatic impact on the Pistons' ability to force fouls and get free throw attempts. The Pistons have averaged 33.6 free throw attempts in the five games Iverson has played, compared to 25.8 for the opposition. Iverson has double-digit attempts from the foul line in three of those games.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I didn't think they were going to win all 82 games." -- Guard Allen Iverson, after the Pistons knocked off the Lakers, who were 7-0 entering the game.
