AUBURN HILLS -- Tayshaun Prince, a power forward in the "small" lineup, is back to being a small forward in the latest lineup for the Detroit Pistons .
He came up big with 25 points, then took the fourth quarter off as the Pistons routed the Toronto Raptors 95-76 on Wednesday night at The Palace. "We got to see how it goes," Prince said. "This was just the first game with this lineup. Obviously, the expectations were high to see how this plays out, but it's just the first game.
"I've said all along with the bigger lineup we're obviously a better defensive team and better rebounding Basketball club, and that's something we take pride in. We've been doing it over my career here."
The new lineup -- with Richard Hamilton coming off the bench and Amir Johnson moving in at the power forward spot -- fell behind 10-2 to start the game.
With Prince scoring, the bench contributing and the new lineup rolling to a 30-19 scoring advantage in the third quarter, the Pistons put the game away early.
"It was definitely nice having the fourth quarter off," Prince said.
Hamilton, meanwhile, struggled with his shooting (3-of-9) and finished with seven points and four assists in 21 minutes off the bench.
Jason Maxiell led an otherwise strong performance by the second unit with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
"We're able to be a more balanced team, so when you have a quarter where you don't play great Basketball, you can go to the bench and be really good," Pistons coach Michael Curry said of his new plan of attack.
Toronto forward Chris Bosh scored 19 points and Andrea Bargnani had 16, but the Raptors lost their seventh consecutive game.
"We tried to go inside and we couldn't score," Toronto coach Jay Triano said. "We missed a couple shots and got deflated."
Maxiell credited his 16 points to being on the floor with Hamilton.
"We had a lot of offense with him coming off the bench," he said. "When they all focused on him, it got us all open."
The Pistons ended up with a 40-28 advantage in rebounding with Maxiell's 11 and another eight collected by Antonio McDyess off the bench.
The bench players accounted for 37 of the 95 Piston points, and 24 of the 40 rebounds.
