HOUSTON -- On the road at Houston and short on bodies, the last thing the Detroit Pistons needed was an overtime game.
The only thing worse? How about double overtime?
That is exactly what the Pistons got from the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.
The outcome, like most of the other overtime games this season, was not what the Pistons wanted.
Houston came up with all the big shots and big stops defensively in the second overtime to escape with a 106-101 win.
"We had a chance to win in regulation and fought back in the first overtime; really gutsy after being down. We just didn't have enough in the second overtime," said Pistons coach Michael Curry, whose team has lost three of four overtime games this season.
Detroit (33-34) had a chance to win the game in regulation when point guard Rodney Stuckey passed the ball to Walter Herrmann, who was inserted into the game with 5.4 seconds to play after sitting the entire fourth quarter.
Herrmann's 3-point attempt rimmed in and out as time expired.
"I would have liked for Stuckey to take that shot," Curry said. "He made the right Basketball play. Walt was open, and we got the last shot (of regulation)."
After the game, Stuckey said he should have pulled up for the potential game-winning shot.
"I probably got a text from Joe (Dumars, Detroit's president of Basketball operations), 'shoot the last shot,' " Stuckey said. "I should have shot it. But I saw Walt open. I should have took it, though."
